Joliet-Area Storm History
Plainfield, part of the greater Joliet area, experienced the single most severe storm-damage event in the region's history on August 28, 1990, when an F5 tornado -- the only F5/EF5 ever recorded in the Chicago area -- tracked 16.4 miles in about eight minutes, destroying 470 homes and damaging roughly 1,000 more.
